Way back in the 1924 José Puertas was born in Campo, a small town in the Aragonese Pyrenees of Sapin. Being only 18 and driven by a yearning desire of growth he embarked himself on a sauling shup to Chile.
After the long trip, he headed for the South of the world where he became enchanted by a deep valley, surrounded by high mountains located in the 7th Region of Chile, called Curico (which in the Mapuche dialect means Blank Water).
From that moment on Curico, or Black Water, became the valley where José Puertas Pons would spend the rest of his life. Over time, that generous, visionary and hardworking man grew lovend and was apreciated by everyone around.
1950 El Milagro Hacienda (the miracle)
The fertile and generous lands watered by the Teno River among wild tress and vineyards would make a lifetime dream come true. in the beginning the vineyard's total surface was 80 hectares with a one million-liter wine cellar.
Originally the company's business consisted on trading graps, bulk wine and providing wine making services to important Chilean companies.
This turned the company into one of the most credited wine producers in the Curico Valley.
Viñedos Puertas is a family owned winery founded by José Puertas Pons in 1950. Wth an area under vine currently amounting to 1000 hetares, the winery owns vineyards in five subvalleys throughout the Curico province.
Red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenére, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Mouvedre.
White ones:Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillón and Viognier.
In addtion, Viñedos Puertas owns a 35 million liter winery equipped with top-notch vinification technology and relies on a team of professionals and experts who oversee the produccion of highly consitent wines sold both as bulk and bottled in the domestic and international markets.
